Why do some persons with heart attack have pain in their left arm?

It is known as referred pain – pain being felt at a place away from the site of origin. The nerves supplying the heart and left arm are from the same spinal segment. It has an embryological basis from the development of the baby in the mother’s womb. It may be noted that pain in the left arm does not always signify a heart attack, there are numerous other causes as well.
