What is TMT related to heart?

TMT stands for treadmill test. Usually it is a computerized treadmill exercise ECG test. Treadmill is like a conveyer belt which can be moved at graded speeds and gradient. ECG is monitored through out the test and during recovery by a computerized control, which also controls the speed and gradient of the treadmill with a preset selectable program. Treadmill test is also part of radionucleide scanning (myocardial perfusion imaging) while assessing reversibile myocardial ischemia (decreased blood supply to a part of the heart muscle). Treadmill is used to give a graded exercise stress to the heart in both cases. The same treadmill with less sophisticated monitoring equipment can also be used for cardiac rehabilitation in patients recovering after a heart attack or heart surgery, for a graded exercise program.
