What is the use of nitroglycerin?

Nitroglycerine has medical and non medical uses. Medical use is in tiny quantities in a highly purified form. Non medical use is an explosive, the original use.

Nitroglycerin tablets and injection are available. Both are used to treat angina pectoris, due to narrowing of coronary arteries supplying blood to the heart. Nitroglycerin dilates these vessels and relieves the pain due to angina pectoris. Nitroglycerine spray was also available for more rapid action than tablets. Tablets can act faster when dissolved in the mouth, under the tongue. Injection is usually given as a slow drip, monitoring the heart rate and blood pressure as it has quick action and can produce changes in heart rate and blood pressure.
