What is the treatment for hypokinetic area after myocardial infarction?

Hypokinetic area is a region where the contraction is diminished. It is quite common after a myocardial infarction (heart attack) due to loss of blood flow to a region of the heart. The hyokinesia could be either temporary or permanent. If the blocked blood vessel has been opened up promptly either by clot dissolving medication or balloon angioplasty (procedure of removing blocks in a blood vessel using a balloon catheter – a small tube with a balloon attached to its tip), the hypokinetic area may become normal after some time. This known as recovery from stunning which had occurred due to loss of blood supply. In other cases where there has been a gradual loss of blood supply, a portion of the heart muscle may be hibernating and show hypokinesia. This will also recover after improving the blood supply either by balloon angioplasty or coronary artery bypass surgery.
