Tetralogy of Fallot is a combination of congenital heart defects: large ventricular septal defect, overriding aorta, pulmonary stenosis and right ventricular hypertrophy. There is right to left shunting across the ventricular septal defect causing cyanosis. In infancy it can cause cyanotic spells. Cyanotic spells can be prevented to a certain extend by giving propranolol. A palliative modified Blalock-Taussig shunt is also useful to prevent spells. Definitive treatment is total correction by an intracardiac repair at the earliest.
