What is hypokinesis of the heart after MI treatment ?

MI stands for myocardial infarction or heart attack. Myocardial infarction is due to loss of blood supply to a region of the heart muscle. Hypokinesis means reduced movement of a region or whole of the heart muscle. Hypokinesis of a region of the heart muscle can persist even after treatment of myocardial infarction as there could always be some area of the heart muscle which could have suffered significant damage before the blocked blood vessel was opened up with a treatment like coronary angioplasty. Sometimes if only a clot dissolving medication had been given, it is possible that the blood vessel has only opened partially. All these can be reason for persistent hypokinesis after treatment of myocardial infarction.
