Patent Ductus Arteriosus - Angiogram

Patent ductus arteriosus can be deomonstrated angiographically by a descending aortic angiogram with pigtail catheter kept in the upper part of descending thoracic aorta. In the lateral view, the ductus overlies the tracheal air column. The ampulla at the aortic end of the ductus is well visualised in this view. A good ampulla is necessary to hold the coil well when you are planning to close the duct by coil implantation.
