Is there any treatment for enlarged heart?

Any form of severe heart disease can cause the heart to enlarge. The most common is severe hypertension or high blood pressure. Others are heart attack and diseases of heart valves. Each one has a separate treatment. Some are treated with medicines while others require surgical correction.

Most of the valvular diseases can be treated either by surgical correction or by balloon dilatation without opening the heart. Valve replacement with catheter techniques without surgery are also available, though a bit expensive currently. Heart attack is caused by coronary artery disease, which can be treated medically, surgically or by balloon angioplasty. Hypertension can be well controlled by medicines.
