Low fat diet can lower LDL. This is mostly by restricting saturated fats in the diet and adding unsaturated fat. But the total fat content has to be low. Unsaturated fat can be in the form of polyunsaturated (e. g. sunflower oil) and mono-unsaturated (e. g. olive oil) fats. Omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil are also useful. HDL improves with regular exercise. But this can be done only if permitted by the treating physician, that too in a graded and supervised fashion. Exercise also helps in controlling LDL and triglyceride levels.
