What is the difference between a clot in the heart and a block in the blood vessel of the heart?
Difference between a clot in the heart and a block in the blood vessel of the heart: You are aware that heart has four chambers. If there is a clot in any of the chambers at one or more places it is called as clots within the heart.
These clots can get dislodged and blood circulation can take it to any part of the body where it can block a blood vessel. For example, if it blocks a blood vessel of the brain, it results in stroke. If it reaches a relatively unimportant vessel, there may be no symptoms at all.
Blocks within the blood vessels of the heart is due to deposition of fat over which a blood clot may form. A clot may totally occlude the vessel so that the region of heart muscle supplied by it dies off, resulting in a heart attack. This is when the blockage is sudden. When the block progresses slowly to completion, there may not be any symptom. It may be detected later when a routine ECG or another test is done, so that it becomes a silent heart attack.
