Most people believe that in order to get good exercise, you need to either join the gym or get those fancy (and expensive) exercise equipment. But recent research at the Stanford University shows that $10 is all the investment you need to stay healthy. $10 can get you a simple pedometer - a device that can measure the number of steps taken by a person during a given period of time. Organisations such as American Heart Association and Shape Up America recommends that adults should walk atleast 10,000 steps in one day.

In recent years, more and more is understood about the health benefits of walking. Nowadays more advanced pedometers are available which can calculate the distance walked and even the calories you have spent. So lets walk towards a healthier life.

I am glad to read that you do not have to spend to much to start a healthy way of life.

I couldn’t agree more, walking is the easiest way to keep the blood moving and bringing more energy into your system. I try to get about 10 to 15 minutes in at lunch several times a week and of course more time during the weekend. I like to use a heart rate monitor, I’m over 50 and not so concerned with burning calories as having a comfortable workout.

    Good point made.

I prefer to exercise at home for free, with my choice of music, and without fighting over dumb bells.

Another way of tracking your exercise:

I use my mobile phone to listen to music when running. It’s a nokia and has software that you can use to track your movement via satellite. A great bit of kit in my opinion.

My wife gave me a pedometer for christmas and we are out there walking for an hr per day. I enjoy it more when she lets me take my camera. I can do anything when I have it because I dont think about doing it. Cheers.

Walking has been a large part of my recovery from cancer. So far, I have been walking 15 days in a row! Can’t do a whole lot, but day by day, it is getting better. Good advice on the pedometer. Nothing like getting that good walk to boost the immune system!

Used to get up and jog around the park at 5 0′clock in the mornings. For the past month I’ve been lazy though, i need to get back out there:)
